The Conflict Competence Network is a global initiative for people who want to make conflict competence an active part of how they work, lead, and contribute to their communities.

CCN members begin with foundational training and assessment, then make an ongoing commitment to apply their learning through reflection, growth planning, and accountability to a peer, supervisor, or other appropriate professional contact.

Together, members help build practical insight into the conflict challenges people face and contribute to healthier workplaces, stronger communities, and more constructive ways of working and living together.

RCCP stands for Registered Conflict Competent Professional.

It is a maintained designation for people who have completed foundational conflict competence training and assessment, and who are committed to putting that learning into practice over time.

RCCP members remain active in the Conflict Competence Network through annual reflection, practical growth planning, and acknowledgement from a peer, supervisor, or other appropriate professional contact.

The designation recognizes an ongoing commitment to constructive conflict practice. It is not simply a one-time training certificate.

RCCP registration is for people who want to make conflict competence an active part of how they work, lead, and contribute in their communities.

It may be a good fit for managers, HR professionals, team leaders, coaches, educators, community leaders, volunteers, and others who regularly navigate difficult conversations, relationships, or conflict.

Applicants should have a professional, organizational, leadership, community, or volunteer context in which they can apply the learning, reflect on their experience, and identify practical goals for continued development.

Being in good standing with the Conflict Competence Network (CCN) indicates that the individual is not only well-trained in conflict management but also demonstrates an ongoing commitment to applying and refining these skills in their professional context. Unlike many certifications, which may reflect past training, the RCCP designation (Registered Conflict Competent Practitioner) shows that the individual is actively engaged in mastering the complexities of conflict management within their specific field. They participate in an annual registration process that includes a self-assessment, growth planning, and peer/supervisor validation, ensuring their skills are current and effectively applied. As an employer or colleague, this means you can trust that the RCCP holder is a proactive leader, consistently working to improve their ability to navigate and resolve conflicts, making them a valuable asset in any team or organization.

The required foundational training and Conflict Competence Assessment are delivered by the Canadian International Institute of Applied Negotiation (CIIAN).

First, complete the foundational training. Next, complete the multiple-choice Conflict Competence Assessment administered by CIIAN.

Once you have completed both requirements, return to the CCN to complete your RCCP registration. Your registration includes a short reflection, practical development goals, and acknowledgement from a peer, supervisor, or other appropriate professional contact.

Once your registration is approved, you become a member of the Conflict Competence Network and may present yourself as a Registered Conflict Competent Professional (RCCP) while your registration remains current.

Becoming an RCCP involves three stages:

1. Foundational training
Successful completion of CIIAN’s Learning Module One: Self and Others is required before applying for RCCP registration. Current course tuition and available payment options are listed through CIIAN.

2. Conflict Competence Assessment
After completing the training, applicants complete CIIAN’s multiple-choice Conflict Competence Assessment. The assessment tests understanding of the core concepts and their application in realistic conflict situations. The assessment fee is CAD $85.

3. RCCP registration and renewal
Initial RCCP registration is CAD $95. Annual RCCP renewal is also CAD $95.

Once your registration is approved, you become a member of the Conflict Competence Network and may present yourself as a Registered Conflict Competent Professional while your registration remains current.

The registration and renewal fees support RCCP administration, annual reflection and development requirements, validator confirmation, current-status records, and the ongoing development of the Conflict Competence Network.

From time to time, CIIAN and CCN may offer reduced-rate access through approved partner, scholarship, or global-access initiatives. Any available options will be listed at enrolment or registration.

RCCP is designed to recognize active commitment, not simply past course completion.

Each year, members reflect on how they have applied conflict competence in real situations, review progress against their development goals, identify priorities for further growth, and have their commitment acknowledged by a peer, supervisor, or other appropriate professional contact.

This process helps turn learning into stronger habits of practice over time. It also keeps the designation meaningful to employers, colleagues, and others who want to know that an RCCP member remains actively engaged in developing how they respond when conflict matters.

Annual registration also helps the CCN learn from the real conflict challenges members are encountering across workplaces, organizations, and communities – strengthening the practical insight and resources available to the wider Network.

Your validator may be a supervisor, manager, colleague, mentor, professional peer, community leader, or another appropriate person who is familiar enough with your work or development efforts to review your reflection and development plan.

They do not need to be a CCN member.

Their role is not to assess your job performance, certify your technical competence, or decide whether you qualify for RCCP registration. They are simply confirming that they have reviewed your materials and support your ongoing efforts to apply and strengthen conflict competence.

No. RCCP is designed as an active, maintained designation, but members are not expected to renew indefinitely.

The early years of practice are often where conflict competence becomes more deeply embedded: people apply what they have learned, reflect on difficult situations, receive feedback, and build stronger habits for responding constructively when conflict arises.

Members who complete five consecutive years of active RCCP registration receive the CCN Five-Year Sustained Practice Recognition. This milestone recognizes consistency, dedication, and a sustained commitment to putting conflict competence into practice over time.

After reaching the five-year milestone, members may continue renewing annually to maintain active RCCP status, or may choose not to renew. Those who do not renew may no longer present themselves as an active RCCP or use the current good-standing badge, but they retain their training certificate and may accurately identify their period of active RCCP registration and their Five-Year Sustained Practice Recognition.

Complete the RCCP Registration and Annual Reflection Form and pay the applicable RCCP registration or renewal fee.

After submitting your form, follow the instructions provided to share your reflection and development plan with your selected validator. Your validator will then complete a brief independent confirmation form.

Your RCCP registration is confirmed once CCN has received your completed form, payment, and validator confirmation.

RCCP renewal opens 60 days before your annual renewal date.

If your renewal is not completed by that date, your active RCCP registration will lapse. This means you may no longer present yourself as a current RCCP or use the RCCP designation, CCN logo, or other materials that indicate current registration until your renewal has been completed.

You retain your foundational training certificate and may accurately refer to your previous period of RCCP registration.

You may restore your registration within 12 months by completing the annual renewal requirements, including the registration form, renewal fee, and validator confirmation. Once approved, your RCCP registration becomes current again from the date of approval.

After 12 months, you will need to submit a new RCCP registration application to rejoin the Network.

Learning Module One and the Conflict Competence Assessment are purchased through CIIAN.

Initial RCCP registration and annual renewal fees are paid securely through the Conflict Competence Network website.

Your RCCP registration is confirmed once CCN has received your completed registration form, validator confirmation, and applicable registration or renewal fee.

The Conflict Competence Assessment is a multiple-choice assessment administered by CIIAN after completion of Learning Module One.

It tests understanding of the core concepts introduced through the training, including how those concepts may be applied in realistic conflict situations. It is designed to confirm a common foundation before someone applies for RCCP registration.

The assessment is separate from the annual RCCP reflection and renewal process.
